Youth Ministry At Faith
Youth Ministry’s goal at Faith is to love Christ, build disciples, and serve all. We live into this in lots of different and engaging ways. Two areas that we feel are important for building community and growing faith are learning how faith leads into service/action and building Christian friendships. In order to do this we have created focused times for service and small groups.
Youth in Munchies work together to ponder, discover, and answer two key questions: Who is God and Who Am I? There is also a commitment to service to the community and the poor in the name of Christ throughout the year as they participate in service projects and special projects. High School student receive reinforcement that God is with them. High School Ministry also seeks to teach students that, like Jesus, they are beloved, called, and sent into their community and the world in the name of Christ.
Youth Group (September-May)
Munchies (6th-8th):
We meet on Tuesday nights from 7-8:30 in Link Hall. Munchies is a place where you can be guided, encouraged and trained in your faith while having fun and connecting with other Junior High Students and leaders who care about you. We know that Junior High can be tough and that you’re asking lots of questions. So we invite you to bring those questions about Jesus and life so that we can explore them together with the help of the Holy Spirit. Friends are more than welcome!
If you’re new to Munchies this is what you can expect. Snacks of course (why else would we be called Munchies?), time to hang out, games, songs, a message and small group time. Every 3 months or so we will take time to put our Faith into Action on a Faith in Action night on a Tuesday. For example in January we will go pick citrus fruit and donate it to the SSIP food bank.
High School Ministry or HSM (9th-12th):
As you may know Pastor Patrick’s last day is June 2nd. But, High School Ministry (HSM) will continue during this interim period. There are quality leaders who are committed to being in relationship with you. Greg Rapier will serve as the Interim Youth Director and I have the utmost confidence in his ability to lead. He served as Youth Ministry Intern for two years and God has given him the gifts for this position. The goal of HSM has not changed. We hope that HSM will provide a place and relationships to explore what you believe and deepen your relationship and knowledge of Jesus Christ in a comfortable setting. HSM’s focus is making connections with people and God in real ways.
The biggest part of HSM are Core Groups. Core Groups will eat lunch with each other, hang out, have a guided discussion about faith centered on God’s Word and end with prayer. The goal is that over time you would come to really trust one another and your leaders so that you can share what your questions, passions and faith. Core Groups will also be a place where you can figure out in community what it means to follow Jesus daily as a High Schooler (how do you pray? what does Jesus have to do with choosing a college? etc.). In other words it’s a place to explore and share the Core of what matters in life. Friends are more than welcome to come to Core Groups.
One change starting in the fall is that 9-12th grade will meet as one Core Group. Core Group will continue to meet on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of each month after the second service. Meet at the fountain. Most Sundays the group will choose a place to go for lunch and meet at that restaurant. To make sure everyone can come no matter what, we’ve got your lunch covered. You’ll be back at the fountain by 2pm. Throughout the year fun events and service projects will be mixed in as well. Core Groups will not meet in June or July, however, there is a Scavenger Hunt on June 18th 6:30-9pm and it’s not too late to sign up for Westminster Woods. Also, on July 24th we will be doing Christmas in July with a BBQ, games and watching Elf outside on the lawn. Core Group will kick-off Wednesday, August 7th by going to Six Flags and begin its regularly scheduled meetings on August 18th after the second service. Stay tuned for details.
