Though born in Colorado, Jeff spent most of his growing-up years in the Bay Area in San Carlos. After four years majoring in English (with an unofficial minor in downhill skiing!), Jeff graduated from U.C. Davis in 1988. He worked for several years as the youth director at First Presbyterian Church in Burlingame where he met, and eventually married his wife, Esther, in 1992. Jeff received his Master of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1996. From Princeton, Jeff’s first call was as the Associate Pastor for Youth and Families at Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha, Nebraska, where he served for eight years. In 2004, Jeff and Esther received a new call back to California and joyfully became a part of the Faith community here in Sacramento. Jeff and Esther have four children — Isabel, Noel, Godebo, and Bereket. Next to spending time with his family, Jeff enjoys backpacking, basketball, playing his guitar, good Mexican food (well, any Mexican food), and coaching soccer and Little League.

Brett Shoemaker serves as Associate Pastor to Youth and Families. Brett enters the adventure of California after twenty years of youth ministry at a church near Seattle, Washington where he was born and raised. He brings with him a team of four beautiful women, three daughters and his wife Wendy. Brett especially enjoys anything involving motion including biking, running, skiing, and ultimate Frisbee, and a few things that do not such as card games and reading. He is thrilled to be in a position to walk alongside young people and families experiencing life-long memories of spirit-filled moments through worship, mission, and community.

He works alongside the deacons in their ministry of “sympathy, witness, and service” to the whole congregation. Jim serves as a teacher, worship leader, and pastor to a variety of individuals at Faith Presbyterian. In another part of Jim’s life, he has taught graphic design and software courses at local community colleges. He and his wife, Lena, are the parents of three grown children and two grandchildren. Jim is passionate about the “radical nature of God’s grace” and about exploring the variety of ways in which the love and presence of God comes to us. Oh, and recently he has discovered the joys of being a grandfather!
