Would You Like to Find a Way to Grow More Deeply in Your Faith?
Life Together Course Begins this January at Faith
If you’ve spent much time driving in winter weather you know the feeling. You find yourself stuck on a patch of ice and no matter how much you rev the engine, the tires just keep on spinning. You’re burning lots of energy, you’re just not moving anywhere. It’s frustrating.
There can be seasons when we feel like this in our faith, sometimes long seasons. You know you’re supposed to be
moving somewhere in your faith, becoming more like Jesus by loving God more deeply and loving others more fully.
And yet it seems like you’re stuck. Stuck in the same habits and patterns. Stuck battling the same sins and shortcomings. Stuck with the same guilt, the same discouragement, the same shame. Perhaps God even seems as far away as ever.
This is not the way the Christian faith is supposed to be. Jesus told us faith would be hard, but he also said it would be dynamic, dynamic like a bubbling spring! The Christian faith is not simply about agreeing to a certain set of theological principles. What we believe, of course, is vitally important. But our beliefs are meant to change us. Jesus does not simply want to inform us; Jesus wants to transform us! Jesus does not simply want us to believe in him; Jesus wants us to follow him! As James 2:26 reminds us, “Faith without works is dead faith.” Your wheels aren’t supposed to keep spinning around forever.
If what you’ve read so far resonates with you, keep reading.
This winter at Faith we will offer a new course of discipleship called Life Together. The name is borrowed from the
classic work with that same title by Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a work which speaks profoundly about how Christians are meant to join in community to grow and become, together, more like Christ. The road is not an easy journey, but it is made more joyful when we walk with one another. It’s a road which cannot, in fact, be walked alone.
Life Together is a five month course geared to bringing people together who want to grow with one another to
become more fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ here in this community of Faith. The course will include a balance of group gatherings and individual spiritual practices. The application to everyday life will be intensely practical. We will explore both key doctrines and disciplines of the Christian faith, both of which are essential for spiritual growth.
Is this course for you? Ask yourself the following questions.
– Have you found yourself recently interested in Jesus and how you can have a personal and vibrant relationship with him as Savior and Lord?
– Are you tired of feeling “stuck” or “stalled” in your Christian faith?
– Are you finding it difficult, if not impossible, to become the sort of person you sense God made you to become?
– Are you new (or maybe not so new) to this congregation and eager to connect with others in this faith community at a deeper level?
If you answered yes to even one of these questions, we’d like to invite you to come to a “no-risk” initial meeting of Life Together on Tuesday, January 24th. We’ll meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. here at church. (Childcare available if you give us advance notice.) At that time, Pastor Jeff Chapman will explain the purpose and the specifics of this course. You will then be given a week to prayerfully consider whether or not this is an endeavor you want to join.
If you are interested in coming that night, please contact Pastor Jeff Chapman (e-mail is best at firstname.lastname@example.org – or phone at 428-3439). We’ll save a place for you on the 24th (the meeting will include a meal). In the meantime, if you have questions about the course, feel free to contact Jeff.
